:: Kids Summer Day Camp ::

Program Objectives:
The WHCI Kids Summer Day Camp provides an opportunity for children of low-income families to enjoy a summer of fun-filled activities and new learning experiences. For many of the kids the Summer Day Camp, with its field trips, special events and treats, is their de facto summer vacation. All too often the limited finances of the unemployed and working poor make it next to impossible for them to vacation with their children, much though they would like to. The Summer Camp is a measure taken to help fill that void. The Kids Day Camp program also provides financial relief for working parents by providing their children with daily recreation and supervised care at little cost, thereby freeing up limited funds to meet other needs.

Program Overview:
Participation in the Summer Camp is open to children aged 4-10, and includes both tenant and non-tenant kids. Admission is free for the children of WHCI tenants, with a small nominal fee charged for other participants in the five-week program.

The camp is run by a trained staff of four, with added help from community volunteers. Starting at the beginning of July and ending in early August, the camp operates from 1:00 until 4:00 PM daily, and includes a complimentary afternoon snack.

Each Camp week has a different theme with daily recreational activities including games, arts and crafts, fun learning and field trips, including an afternoon of recreation at a local swimming pool. The Camp concludes with a day full of games and play, and a barbeque party held at Windsor’s Mic Mac Park.

Opportunities to Help:
Windsor Homes Coalition Inc. has been operating its Kids Summer Day Camp as a community service for more than fifteen years. The Camp, and its caring staff, have been the source of happy memories for many hundreds of inner city children during that time.

On-going delivery of the program and its enrichment is dependent of community support, more specifically, on the donations of money, goods, services and other helpful assistance that WHCI gratefully receives each year from Windsor businesses, community organizations and concerned individuals.

Anyone interested in helping support the Kids Summer Day Camp, or in learning more about the program, should contact Tenant Advocate at 258-4501.
